2021 Time

We are in the new year.

Do you have goals all planned out?

Here are a few pointers to get a good start this year on your goals.

Goals

Take time to write 2021 on a piece of paper. Next, draw lines that connect 2021 to the significant themes in your life, such as Family/Friends, Health/Fitness, Career, or Finances. In each of those areas, you can create the goal or set a direction for those areas. Connect the goals to the theme area. Doing this is called a concept map. Others call it mind mapping. Business and education use them, and the process easily translates to goal setting!

One useful example could be making a health/fitness goal of exercise 5 days a week. Another idea might be that you drink 64oz of water each day of the week. Remember to connect your goals to some change or make it be something important to you.

Positive Affirmations

Repeating positive affirmations each day can change your outlook. Write out statements that coincide with your 2021 goals and repeat them daily. Create phrases that are full explanations of what you are going to accomplish. If your goal is to eat healthier, your affirmation may read as: “I am focused to learn new things about cooking to improve my healthy choices daily, and I commit to finding new recipes through researching cookbooks, health coach advice, and internet recipes each week.”

Tracking

Find yourself a calendar or planner. You can also download printable calendars online. Calendars of all shapes and sizes are available to be purchased at discount dollar stores. Your smartphone has a calendar app. Use one of these methods to track your daily goals. Marking off days gives you increased satisfaction and motivation to continue.

The combination of goal setting, repeating positive affirmations, and tracking creates an excellent start to the new year. Take control of your goals for the year.
